Lucart opened the doors to 2018 with an important investment aimed at bolstering the market position in the Iberian Peninsula, through the acquisition of the assets of the Spanish Group CEL Technologies & System.

The CEL Group went bankrupt in the summer of 2017 and a tender for the sale of its production assets was called. The acquisition by Lucart was finalised on January 31st through a newly incorporated company called Lucart Tissue & Soap S.L.U.
The Lucart project to revamp the business includes an investment plan of over 20 million euros over the next five years.

At the end of the operation, Lucart acquired three production plants, in the Basque Country region near the city of Bilbao, dedicated to the production and converting of tissue paper and the production of soaps and personal care detergents for use in the Away from Home sector. The acquisition also includes an important deinking plant, which will allow Lucart to exploit its know-how in the field of high-quality recycled ecological tissue paper and further consolidate its leadership role in this field.

From a logistical point of view, the geographical location of the plants is ideal for Lucart to serve both the Iberian and French markets.
For the progressive restart of production, Lucart has confirmed 146 jobs in the three plants acquired, with a business plan that includes:

  • restarting two paper machines at the Aranguren plant, with a total capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year;

  • gradually restarting the Gunes plant and implementing the converting activity;

  • developing and strengthening the soap and detergent production activity at the Artziniega plant, which was never stopped.
