Lucart committed to protecting and conserving the Vosges forests with FSC®
Laval-sur-Vologne (88) - December 13, 2021 - Lucart has just signed a partnership with the Groupement Forestier Vosges Nord (GFVN) to financially back the conservation and preservation of 551 hectares of the Dambach forest (Massif des Vosges du Nord) as part of the ecosystem services project for valorising of the region managed by FSC® France. Managed by forestry expert Evrard de Turckheim[1] and located near the Lucart factory in Laval-sur-Vologne, the forest is part of the cross-border, UNESCO- listed North Vosges Regional Nature Reserve.
Investing in FSC® certified forests means giving back to forests for the services they provide to society at large and rewarding the work of the foresters who are involved in the process. Aurélien Sautière, Executive Director of FSC® France, explains:
"With this commitment, Lucart is helping to maintain the responsible management of our forest and the conservation of the protected wildlife. We welcome this approach, which is in line with the conclusions of the recent COP26 in Glasgow, which placed forests at the heart of the concerns of the signatory states. We can only encourage and thank the players who are committed to the development of mindful natural resources.”
Lucart, a pioneer committed to FSC® ecosystem services
With its FSC®-certified finished products, Lucart has always guaranteed the use and traceability of cellulose fibres selected from responsibly managed forests in compliance with strict environmental, social and economic standards. Strongly committed to implementing a Sustainable Development strategy across the entire group, Lucart has always strived to be a trailblazer and offer environment-friendly technologies and paper products.
Lucart is the first tissue paper manufacturer (of toilet paper, napkins, kitchen towels, etc.) to invest in FSC® ecosystem services in France. With this action, Lucart is being involved in the protection of biodiversity in the Dambach forest, where the forestry group sets up free-growth areas and maintains tree habitats to promote the development of fauna and flora. The forest also contributes to sequestering carbon in the soil and trees.
With this project, Lucart also aims at valorising and recognising the work of the forest managers who work every day to preserve biodiversity, protect the quality of the soil, air and water, and produce more and more high-quality wood.
"As a major European paper recycling player, Lucart has always placed the preservation and valourisation of the natural capital of forests in the centre of its concerns. That is why we have always sought the right balance between the use of recycled fibres and FSC® certified virgin fibres in the production of our products” , explained Alessandro Pasquini, President of Lucart SAS.
“This project is an excellent way for Lucart to bolster its commitment at the local level, contributing to achieving key objectives, such as biodiversity protection, CO2 sequestering and sustainable human activity development.”
Lucart, eco-responsible recycled paper leader
With the publication of its 16th Sustainability Report last July, Lucart renewed its commitment to driving the green transition in the paper industry. Today, Lucart uses more recycled paper (84%) than virgin fibres (16%) in its Laval-sur-Vologne plant to manufacture its hygiene products.
